Bulk Upload your 301 redirects into your WordPress system

Simple 301 Redirects is a great plugin that I use on almost every project I do that has an existing website and we’re changing the structure and terminology of for SEO. It works perfectly and does exactly what it states it does – provides a simple way to create 301 redirects in the WordPress system.

There has been times where it has been pain-stakingly time consuming getting a large list into the system using this plugin as it is done one by one. So I thought it was time to give the ability to get that large list into the system without much effort. Now, there is no point creating the plugin again and adding this feature, why re-create the wheel. The Simple 301 Redirects plugin does a great job for what it was built for, doing a large list was just slightly overlooked. Instead I have created a plugin that works with this already great plugin!

Simple 301 Redirects – Addon – Bulk Uploader adds a section in the settings area that allows you to upload a CSV of all your 301 redirect URLs and it loads them in for you! If you have some in there already, it will add to them, checking for duplicates and warns you of them so you can update and fix them if need be.

A great addition to the already great 301 redirects plugin. Read more about it and download it now from the WordPress Plugin Directory.

    1. Hi srhise,

Sorry to hear that. I’m unfortunately not experiencing that same error with the example file. The “Invalid File” error is a rather generic one unfortunately as it does depend on a few things that have to do with the physical nature of the file itself (ie the extension, file type being ‘text/csv’ and its size) however I understand that you tried this with the example file as well and got the same result.

My thoughts are that the plugin as unable to actually upload the file to the tmp folder on the server. This uses the standard HTML multipart/form-data form to send the file to the server. I may need to allow for further error checking on this is this is the case.

Are you knowledgable of HTML and PHP at all? If so, would you mind running a test for me by modifying the ‘simple-301-bulk-uploader.php’ file and adding the line ‘print_r($data);’ to line 97 of the file then attempting to upload a file and document its output? You should be met with something similar to this at the top of the page (please disregard the tmp_name here as I am currently on a local server): “Array ( [name] => 301-example.csv [type] => text/csv [tmp_name] => /Applications/MAMP/tmp/php/phpQ6LIkk [error] => 0 [size] => 40 )”

I’ll do my best to get to the bottom of this with you to get you up and running with it 😉

    2. srhise,

It has become apparent on the forum that the issue had actually been due to uploading from a PC and that the filetype differs of that on the Mac. I have updated the plugin to version 1.0.1 now. Please let me know if that fixes the problem you were having.
